Last Wednesday afternoon, my housemate called me as I was on my way home. She was very frantic and got me really worried. She told me that there was a snake inside our house. Here I was driving home and thinking that there was a deadly animal that was ready to strike at any moment and I could be going home to disaster.
As I got home I saw her and her son in the kitchen not wanting to walk across the living room becasue the snake was there. I, on the other hand, couldn't get inside the house because I would have to go through the living room. After awhile I saw the snake on the window tracks (sliding windows) and I thought it safe to enter my front door. To make the story short, we called a few people who might be able to help us. It would cost about $70.oo to get a professional to relocate the snake. Not wanting to spend that much, I asked for tips on how to get the reptile out.
The dreaded animal was about 20 inches long and and very thin. That was how it got under the front screen. It was so thin that was able to almost flatten itself to go under the crack of the door. It was green and yellow bellied and didn't seem to be harmful. I then proceeded to spray it with mosquito repellent so that it would come down from the window. After that we got a broom and I had to lead it out the door.
It was a really weird moment. One wouldn't really expect to see animals inside their house, especially undomesticated ones. In my stay in Australia I have seen a baby kangaroo in my backyard, a possum in my friend's backyard, all sorts of spiders in various places and now a snake. For a picture of the snake go here.
