5 Things in 5 years

It was my 5 year anniversary in Australia last Tuesday. So I decided to list 5 important things in 5 categories that has happened to me in 5 years. (well i tried anyway).

1. Social - I've made 5 very good friends here. They keep me sane, active, chatty and happy. I would never have survived the past years without them. I'm still making friends now, but these 5 are for keeps.

2. Career - I finished my Masters degree in Accounting in 2003. Got a receptionist job in 2004, sold credit cards also in 2004, tax agent and bookkeeper in 2005 all in the Gold Coast. Got an accounts job here in Brisbane. I think I'll be staying here awhile - it's really fun, flexible and i'm appreciated here. i'm still doing my CPA qualifications and have 4 more subjects to go. that will take another 2 years or so.

3. Love life - hmmm...... this is a bit more complicated and harder to explain. There were some guys in the past 5 years: 1) A relationship that was good while it lasted. there was complete trust and sense of security. it was difficult to maintain a long distance relationship though. 2) i crashed and burned as i thought i would - don't want to think about it any longer. 3) a relationship that should never have happened but i let it anyway. he was there when i needed him and that made a lot of difference regardless of our circumstances. 4) something rekindled but probably not really fated to be. it was sweet, nice, comfortable and something that should not be regretted. it didn't work the first time, but i'm a bit stubborn and i just had to hit my head again. 5) the last one did not take, there was a good beginning but not enough to make me believe that it could work.

4. Material stuff - 5 major things I purchased with my hard earned money. Actually, I'm still paying off the first and second on the list - my car (i had a little help from my brother - traded in his car and got $3,000 from it), my trip home last 2005 (really worth it! of course i spent money on a lot of little things too), my laptop (HP Pavillion), multimedia player (i refuse to be part of the ipod craze and bought an archos instead), my trip to melbourne (watched miss saigon and had a really great time with friends)

5. Revelations and Affirmations -
a) I'm not patient with kids - probably will not have one of my own. I can take care of them for awhile as long as t I have the thought in my head that I could return them to their parents after.
b) I can survive in a totally crappy environment if needed, but my limit is only a year. i can last longer if the benefits were worth it.
c) never let go of old friends, no matter how hard it is to keep in touch. the history that you have shared with them will keep the bonds strong and continued communication will make the friendship last longer.
d) make the effort to make new friends, even if you think that it might not be a lasting one. there is always something to be learned from other people's stories.
e) falling in love and remaining in love is difficult, falling out of love is easier (especially if they did something bad to you). there will be no shortage of man to fall for but finding the right one is a challenge. and there will always be some guy in the background waiting to make your life a living hell, but it is harder to find someone who would make your life seem like an endless fantasy come true.

There you are 5 of 5. the work day is now finished and i have to go home.
